About This Site

SuuduBaaba (suudu-baaba.com) also Planet Fulbe (planetfulbe.com) is a website dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and culture of the Fulbe, also known as the Haal-Pulaar’en, from their ancient origins to their modern contributions.

The Fulbe are ancient people with a rich and diverse cultural heritage shaped by centuries of social, political, and intellectual development. Known as the largest nomadic pastoralist community in the world, they have also played a major role in the political history of West Africa, founding important states such as the kingdoms of Fuuta Tooro and Fuuta Jallon, the Massina Empire, the Toucouleur Empire, and the Sokoto Caliphate.

The Fulbe have also contributed significantly to modern leadership in Africa and beyond. Notable figures include Boubacar Diallo Telli, the first Secretary-General of the Organization of African Unity, and Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. Several African heads of state have Fulani backgrounds, including Ahmadou Ahidjo, Shehu Shagari, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Muhammadu Buhari, Thomas Sankara, Macky Sall, and Adama Barrow.

Despite their wide geographic distribution, the Fulbe remain united by the Pulaar/Fulfulde language, shared historical traditions, and their ethical code known as "Pulaaku," which emphasizes dignity, discipline, respect, and moral integrity.
